Despite a day of unexpected rain and a cool, breezy evening, Riverwalk residents turned out in strong spirits for the much-loved Riverwalk Moonlight Cinema on Saturday 6 December at the Riverwalk Village Park.
As the clouds cleared just in time for the first screening, families and neighbours gathered under the stars to enjoy a free outdoor movie night, complete with complimentary popcorn and ice creams. Around 200–250 residents attended across the evening, proving that a little chilly weather wasn’t enough to dampen Riverwalk’s community spirit.
The event featured two family-friendly films - Nutcracker and the Four Realms and A Boy Called Christmas - with every beanbag quickly snapped up as moviegoers settled in. The park came alive between 5.30 and 6.30pm, with plenty of laughter, warm jackets and shared moments as the big screen lit up.
Free treats were a hit, with 500 ice creams and 1,500 serves of popcorn enjoyed throughout the evening. Some locals even popped by to collect dessert before heading home, while others stayed on to soak up the relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the films.
Considering the chilly conditions, the turnout exceeded expectations and highlighted what makes Riverwalk special - a connected, welcoming community that enjoys coming together, no matter the weather.
Overall, the evening ran smoothly and delivered a cosy, friendly experience that residents clearly appreciated. The Riverwalk Moonlight Cinema once again proved to be a cherished community event, bringing neighbours together for a memorable night of entertainment.
